SOLID WASTE REDUCTION & RECYCLING COMMITTEE

Committee members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen for a 3 year term. They look at all aspects of solid waste, recycling programs and opportunities for the Town of Pownal. The committee also organizes Pownal Pride Days, and helps plan hazardous waste collection and other programs.

Members are: Justin Nichols, Chair – 329-4029(cell); Kirk Niese, Mary Lee Fowler, Jamie Welch, Alan Bradstreet

Disposal of rubbish is one of Pownal’s biggest expenses. In order to reduce the volume of curbside rubbish, residents are encouraged to reduce consumption, recycle, and compost. The Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee works with the Board of Selectmen to have up-to-date information about related programs and recycling opportunities. Pownal is a member and participating owner of ecomaine, Southern Maine’s largest collaborative disposal and recycling organization. For more information on ecomaine, see their website, http://www.ecomaine.org.

For specifics on how and what to do with rubbish in Pownal, please go to the Municipal Page of this website.
