Equipment Operator/ Laborer
The Town of Pownal is hiring a full-time Equipment Operator/Laborer to join our Public Works crew. This is a hands-on job for someone who likes working outdoors, working with a team, and doing work that helps the town every day. In this role, you will drive and run different trucks and equipment, do general labor, load and unload materials, help with road work, and support snow removal, winter road care, and storm response.
To do this job, you need at least a Class B license, a clean driving record, and the ability to handle physical work for long periods of time. You should be able to work well with others, follow directions, and work outside in all kinds of weather. Experience running heavy equipment and doing snow removal is helpful, but we are willing to train the right person who is dependable, ready to learn, and wants to be part of the team. The person hired must pass a background check, physical, alcohol and drug screening, and take part in the federal motor carrier random alcohol and substance abuse testing program.
This is a full-time, 40-hour-a-week job with four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, offering a steady schedule and three-day weekends most of the year. Overtime and weekend hours come with winter weather, storms, and emergencies when the Public Works crew is needed. The Town offers strong benefits, including 100% paid health insurance for a single plan, 80% paid health insurance for a family plan, a 6% employer contribution to a 457B retirement plan, access to dental, vision, short-term disability, and life insurance through the Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust, and paid time off. The pay range is $25 - $27 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
